Klarna launches flexible payments with Lufthansa Group

Klarna, the global digital bank and flexible payments provider, has entered a new multi-market partnership with Lufthansa Group, a European airline group, supported through Klarna’s integration with Adyen, the global financial technology platform.

The company said the new product has been launched to give travellers greater control over how they pay for their journeys, addressing growing demand for increased flexibility, convenience and transparency during the travel booking process.

Klarna is known for offering flexible payment options across global retail and travel, enabling users to pay in full, pay later or split purchases over time. The company operates an AI-powered payments and commerce network serving over 114 million users worldwide and processes 3.4 million transactions each day.

The new integration with Lufthansa Group allows customers to select Klarna’s payment options at checkout when booking flights and travel experiences. Travellers can choose to pay upfront, pay later, or spread the cost of travel, offering greater financial flexibility when planning trips.

Initially, the new payment options will be available to customers in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S. The rollout began in mid-November and is set to expand across all Lufthansa Group Network Airlines—including Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and Brussels Airlines—by the end of Q2 2026.

Klarna chief commercial officer David Sykes said, “Travel is one of the most meaningful investments people make. Together, we’re giving travellers the confidence to book their trips their way—with more flexibility, transparency, and choice than ever before.”

Lufthansa Group head of digital customer solutions Oliver Schmitt said, “At Lufthansa Group, we put the needs and a convenient booking experience of our customers at the center of everything we do. By leveraging our digital capabilities and partnering with Klarna and Adyen, we can now offer greater choice and flexibility in how customers pay for their journeys.”

Adyen president EMEA Alexa von Bismarck said, “We’re proud to support Lufthansa Group with our technology and global payments network. By combining Adyen’s reliable infrastructure with Klarna’s innovative payment solutions, Lufthansa Group customers will benefit from a smooth and flexible checkout experience.”
