Navigating new IRS rules: 2025 reporting essentials

With reporting demands tightening again, organisations are preparing for another year shaped by tax rule updates, revised IRS forms and rising expectations around reporting accuracy.

Comply Exchange, which offers automated IRS tax compliance, has released its Year-End Reporting Guide. The free eBook, which can be downloaded here, offers a concise resource designed to help compliance teams avoid mistakes and stay fully aligned with regulatory requirements.

The guide opens with a high-level summary of 2025’s key developments, outlining the main form updates, regulatory shifts and filing changes that will define the upcoming season. It includes draft and final documents such as the Form W-9 (Rev. January 2026 draft), Form 1099-DA for digital assets, Form 1099-K for third-party payments and updated information relating to 1042 and 1042-S filings. Teams will also find a curated table of all 2026 deadlines for forms including 1099, 1042, 1042-S and 945.

Among the key changes is the draft Form W-9, issued by the IRS in October 2025. Although it is not yet in effect, the revised format provides early insight into the regulator’s direction of travel, helping organisations prepare documentation processes in advance.

Digital asset reporting also remains a centrepiece for 2025. The finalised Form 1099-DA will be required for reporting transactions undertaken throughout the year, with submissions due in early 2026.

The guide additionally explores the growing influence of AI in tax reporting. Automation tools are increasingly used to validate, monitor and manage regulatory data at scale. For 2025, firms can expect AI-driven compliance to support improved accuracy, reduced manual effort and stronger audit readiness.

Looking forward, the global reporting landscape continues to grow more complex. According to Comply Exchange, these shifts present an opportunity for organisations to streamline their workflows. The company highlights how its automated solutions support compliance with  frameworks.
