Root Platform, Admiral Pioneer and Octopus Electric Vehicles have joined forces to embed motor insurance directly into the electric vehicle leasing journey.
The partnership has been designed to address long-standing inefficiencies in how insurance is delivered within salary sacrifice schemes.
Cover has traditionally been arranged through fleet-based policies that rely on broad risk averages, often failing to reflect individual driver behaviour or vehicle usage. The new model replaces this approach with personalised pricing, delivered seamlessly at the point of sale.
At the centre of the integration is Root’s core insurance platform, which enables insurance products to be embedded directly into digital customer journeys.
Its API-driven architecture allows insurers to deliver real-time pricing and policy issuance without customers having to leave the platform they are using. In this case, that means insurance can be arranged directly within the Octopus EV leasing experience.
Admiral Pioneer is using this infrastructure to offer tailored motor insurance based on individual risk factors, including driving profile, vehicle choice, location and usage. By moving away from traditional fleet underwriting, the insurer aims to provide more accurate pricing and greater transparency for drivers, while maintaining control over underwriting and compliance.
Octopus Electric Vehicles operates a salary sacrifice scheme that allows employees to lease electric vehicles in a tax-efficient way through their employer.
Insurance is included as part of the package, helping to simplify the process for drivers and reduce the overall cost of ownership. The new integration allows customers to receive personalised insurance quotes instantly, without leaving the Octopus platform.
The companies say the partnership reflects a broader shift towards embedded insurance and more digital-first distribution models, particularly as electric vehicles become more widely adopted and customer expectations around convenience continue to rise.
Emma Huntington, CEO of Admiral Pioneer, said, “We’re partnering with Octopus to bring real innovation to EV salary sacrifice, moving beyond traditional fleet pricing to offer insurance based on individual risk. By combining our deep insurance expertise with Octopus’s digital-first approach, we’re delivering smarter, fairer, and more personalised insurance for electric drivers. This partnership shows what’s possible when forward-thinking brands come together.”
Jonathan Stewart, co-founder of Root, added, “This is embedded insurance at its best – contextual, convenient, and customer-centric. Our collaboration with Octopus EV is helping to create a seamless, game-changing insurance journey that aligns with how people lease and drive electric vehicles today – a true reflection of the strength of our partnership with Admiral Pioneer.”
