1Kosmos and Hopae, a digital identity infrastructure platform provider, have announced a global partnership aimed at expanding access to government-issued digital identities across borders.
The companies said the partnership is designed to modernise digital onboarding by extending 1Kosmos’ eID coverage through the integration of Hopae Connect, allowing organisations to verify government-backed digital credentials in a secure and interoperable way without depending on centralised databases.
The move comes as traditional KYC checks continue to frustrate customers and compliance teams alike, with onboarding often slowed by repeated, document-heavy verification steps. The companies pointed to rising abandonment rates of 30–50% during lengthy onboarding journeys, alongside growing fraud risks linked to AI, deepfakes and synthetic identities—an issue forecast to cost $58bn annually by 2030, according to Juniper Research.
1Kosmos positions its platform around unifying identity proofing with passwordless authentication, with the aim of enabling higher-assurance remote identity verification and reducing reliance on manual document checks. Through the partnership, its customers will be able to consume eIDs on a global basis as part of existing onboarding flows, with a focus on meeting demanding compliance requirements for remote verification.
Hopae, meanwhile, provides the infrastructure layer designed to connect digital identity ecosystems through its Hopae Connect product. By plugging this capability into the 1Kosmos platform, Hopae said it can help identity providers and regulated organisations support a wider range of national and regional eID schemes and wallets, while maintaining interoperability across different standards and data formats.
Both firms also framed the partnership within the wider policy and market shift towards trusted online identity. They highlighted how government-backed digital identity schemes are accelerating globally, with Europe’s eIDAS 2.0 set to make acceptance of the EUDI Wallet mandatory for regulated companies—adding pressure for institutions to update onboarding processes and strengthen remote identity verification controls.
The companies said the integration will deliver higher assurance, automation and operational efficiency for enterprise customers, including expanded global eID coverage, support for regulatory requirements such as eIDAS 2.0, and broader compatibility across identity standards and data formats.
1Kosmos said the combined platform—integrating Hopae Connect and support for global eID—is available immediately.
1Kosmos COO Huzefa Olia said, “This partnership with Hopae enables 1Kosmos to provide customers with high-assurance online identity verification that supports more than 60 global eID schemes and wallets. Together, we’re enabling organizations to move away from document based identity verification and replace it with verified, government recognized digital credentials.”
Hopae CRO and Europe GM Bertrand Bouteloup said, “This partnership with 1Kosmos is strategic for Hopae. It underscores our ability to complement and extend digital identity verification platforms with plug-and-play support for Global eID.”
