Wiz joins Google Cloud to boost multicloud security offering

Wiz

Google has completed its acquisition of Wiz, a leading cloud and AI cybersecurity platform headquartered in New York.

The deal represents a strategic investment by Google Cloud to improve cloud security and enable organisations to build quickly and securely across any cloud or AI platform. The value of the deal has not been disclosed in the announcement.

Google LLC is a globally recognised technology company offering a broad range of products and services spanning search, advertising, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. Its cloud division, Google Cloud, provides infrastructure, data analytics, and AI-powered tools to enterprises and governments worldwide. Wiz is a cloud-native security platform that delivers easy-to-use, comprehensive security capabilities with deep expertise across cloud environments and code. The platform connects to all major cloud providers and helps organisations prevent and respond to cybersecurity incidents at scale.

The acquisition comes as businesses and governments increasingly migrate critical data and systems to the cloud and adopt agile, continuous software development practices. As organisations operate across multicloud environments and integrate AI into their operations, attackers are similarly leveraging AI to act with greater speed and sophistication, making advanced cloud security solutions more essential than ever.

Wiz will join Google Cloud while retaining its brand identity and maintaining its commitment to securing customers across all cloud environments. Consistent with Google Cloud’s commitment to openness, Wiz products will continue to operate and remain available across all major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle Cloud. The combined offering will also be available through a broad range of partner security solutions, and Google Cloud will continue to provide customers with choice via partner solutions available in the Google Cloud Marketplace.

Together, Google Cloud and Wiz will deliver a unified security platform designed to improve the speed at which organisations can detect, prevent, and respond to threats. The platform will help organisations stay ahead of emerging threats generated by AI models, protect AI models themselves from attack, and empower security professionals to hunt for threats more effectively. A consistent set of tools, processes, and policies will be provided across all major cloud environments, spanning every layer from code to cloud to runtime.

The combined capability is also expected to accelerate the adoption of multicloud security, enhancing organisations’ ability to operate across multiple cloud environments and spurring further innovation in cloud computing and AI applications. Enterprises and government agencies will benefit from improved security design, operation, and automation, enabling cybersecurity teams to scale while reducing the cost of implementing and managing security controls. Notably, the platform is also intended to extend protections to small businesses, which frequently lack the expertise and resources to defend themselves against increasingly sophisticated and destructive cyberthreats.
