LSEG launches sustainability ratings for global markets

LSEG has launched its Sustainability Ratings and Data product, a comprehensive suite of ESG scores and sustainability analytics now accessible through LSEG Workspace, aimed at bringing greater transparency and comparability to global financial markets.

The new offering consolidates sustainability reporting, regulatory compliance and investor requirements into a single integrated experience within the Workspace platform. The ESG scores, available across multiple LSEG platforms, are underpinned by a research-driven methodology aligned with leading global sustainability frameworks including ISSB, GRI, SASB and ESRS.

Drawing on over 25 years of combined LSEG and FTSE Russell expertise, the product brings together standardised sustainability data, ESG materiality assessments and dynamic ESG scores to deliver a full picture of corporate sustainability performance. Coverage extends to more than 16,000 companies and over 1 million fixed income instruments, supported by more than 240 standardised metrics derived from over 2,000 underlying data points.

Central to the new framework is a sustainability-first materiality matrix, which pairs a redesigned industry classification system with a double materiality approach applied at a business-segment level. Companies are scored on a transparent scale from 0, denoting no awareness, to 5, indicating leading performance. The scoring model assesses how firms manage material ESG risks and opportunities across 12 themes, with the aim of generating decision-useful insights for a broad range of financial workflows.

The framework also introduces threshold-based scoring, capped metrics and performance analytics, structured to reward companies that pursue strategic ESG initiatives and can demonstrate verifiable sustainability progress. An optional ‘Plus’ layer is also available, offering deeper analysis through the inclusion of controversies, sovereign ESG risk and positive environmental impact signals such as green revenues and sustainable financing.
