Document management firm M-Files has unveiled a series of new integrations for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Builder, designed to deliver more accurate and trusted AI-driven results for enterprise users.
The move builds on an existing strategic partnership between the two companies and reflects their shared ambition to help organisations unlock a performance advantage through artificial intelligence.
Rather than offering a basic plug-in, M-Files says it is fundamentally elevating the Microsoft 365 experience. Customers will be able to access M-Files content within Microsoft 365 in the same way they would use SharePoint or OneDrive, whilst also benefiting from M-Files’ context-first approach to document management — a methodology that organises information based on what it is, rather than where it is stored.
Three core advantages underpin the new offering. First, permission-aware answers ensure that any content surfaced through Microsoft 365 Copilot or Copilot Agent Builder respects user access rights as defined within M-Files, keeping outputs aligned with organisational policies.
Second, context-enriched AI capabilities mean that M-Files feeds structured, metadata-rich information into Copilot, helping it understand how key business concepts — such as customers, contracts, processes, and components — relate to one another. This, the company says, enables deeper reasoning and more powerful agentic automation.
Third, the integration is designed to increase return on investment for organisations already using Microsoft 365, reducing the need for employees to switch between systems when searching for trusted information.
M-Files strategic operations and corporate development vice president Ryan Barry said, “Many organizations are realizing that AI is only as strong as the information behind it. Without the right context, even the most advanced models struggle to deliver accurate, actionable insights or reliably execute agentic workflows with the precision required to generate measurable business efficiency.
“With the new experiences announced today, M-Files further demonstrates why its context-first document management system is the clear choice for enhancing Microsoft 365.”
Microsoft’s director of product marketing for SharePoint and OneDrive John Mighell said, “We’re seeing strong market demand for our solutions with M-Files, which is a direct result of the deep collaboration across our teams. These new solutions enrich Microsoft Work IQ with context from M-Files’ enterprise knowledge graph empowering differentiated AI experiences.
“Our partnership reflects a shared commitment to secure information, advanced governance, and the next generation of agent driven productivity.”
The announcement carries additional weight given M-Files’ recent recognition by Microsoft as the winner of the 2025 Marketplace Solution Partner of the Year in Finland. The firm also holds the distinction of being the first document management system to leverage SharePoint Embedded, a capability that allows organisations to store content natively within the Microsoft 365 platform.
