US WealthTech funding plummeted by 57% YoY

The US WealthTech sector endured a prolonged and steep decline in both deal activity and funding between 2021 and 2025.

2024 closed with 424 deals and total funding of $8.2bn for the year, an 80% fall in funding and deal volume alike from the 2,092 deals and $64bn raised across 2021.

2025 offered little reprieve, with 259 deals totalling $3.6bn, a further 57% decline in funding and a 39% drop in deal volume year on year.

Average deal size compressed markedly over the same period, falling from $30.5m in 2021 to $19.3m in 2024 and $13.7m in 2025, reflecting a broader shift towards caution among investors navigating an uncertain macroeconomic backdrop.

Deals over $100m fell by 82% as investors grew cautious

The contraction was felt equally across deal sizes.

Funding from transactions under $100m stood at $3.9bn in 2024, down 80% from $19.3bn in 2021, and fell a further 29% to $2.8bn in 2025.

Larger deals of $100m or more declined with similar severity, dropping 90% from $44.7bn in 2021 to $4.3bn in 2024, before falling a further 82% to $783.5m in 2025.

The near-disappearance of high-value transactions points to a fundamental reassessment of risk appetite within the sector, with institutional investors showing little willingness to deploy significant capital until there is greater clarity on valuations and the path of interest rates.
