Ripe, a UK-based digital managing general agent (MGA) specialising in niche insurance products, has launched a new ChatGPT app for its cycling insurance brand Cycleplan, a specialist provider of cover for cyclists and their equipment.
The move positions Ripe among the first digital MGAs to offer real-time insurance quotes through conversational AI.
The partnership between Ripe’s technology capabilities and the ChatGPT ecosystem is designed to simplify how customers access cycling insurance. By enabling users to receive instant, accurate quotes via a conversational interface, the app removes friction from the traditional quote journey and allows customers to proceed directly to payment.
Ripe operates as a digital-first MGA, offering specialist insurance products across a wide range of sectors including cycling, boats, motorhomes, photography, golf and small businesses. The company focuses on leveraging technology to streamline insurance distribution and improve customer experience, currently serving more than 430,000 policyholders across the UK.
Cycleplan, one of the UK’s best-known cycling insurance providers, offers flexible, buildable cover tailored to cyclists’ individual needs. Its policies are designed to protect both riders and their equipment, making it a popular choice among cycling enthusiasts seeking specialist insurance solutions.
The newly launched ChatGPT app was developed in-house by Ripe’s technology team using AI, forming part of the company’s broader digital distribution strategy. Unlike many existing tools that provide only indicative pricing, the app delivers a confirmed quote and enables users to click directly through to the declarations and payment page on the Cycleplan website, streamlining the purchase process.
The launch reflects evolving customer behaviour, with more consumers using AI tools such as ChatGPT to research, compare and purchase financial products. Ripe aims to meet customers within these digital environments, offering a more intuitive and accessible route to specialist insurance.
The app is powered by Ripe’s flexible technology stack, which is designed to integrate rapidly with emerging platforms and support scalable, customer-led insurance journeys. This approach enables the company to adapt quickly to new distribution channels while maintaining a seamless user experience.
“We know cyclists are already using tools like ChatGPT to plan routes and compare kit – and their specialist insurance should be no different. By launching this app, we’re meeting customers where they are and giving them a straightforward and conversational way to explore their insurance options, understand the cover available to them and get a quote quickly and easily,” Ripe CEO Alan Thomas said.
“We have created a platform that can plug into new environments and support different ways for customers to access our products. ChatGPT is the latest example of that highly scalable approach in action, and it gives us a strong foundation for future digital distribution,” Ripe CIO Andrew Harrington said.
