Zurich and Honey reshape Australia’s insurance race

Zurich Financial Services Australia, the local arm of the global insurer and Australia’s only major composite insurer, is set to enter the country’s personal home insurance market after deepening its alliance with digital insurer Honey Insurance.

Under the expanded arrangement, Zurich will take on underwriting and claims management for Honey’s home, landlord and motor policies from October 2026, a move that also grows Zurich’s existing presence in personal motor cover.

The offerings will draw on data and technology to bring new customers on board within minutes, with cover designed to shield properties and vehicles from threats including extreme weather, accidents and crime.

Distribution will remain with Honey, which sells through its own brand alongside key partners such as Bank of Queensland (BOQ).

Zurich operates as Australia’s sole major composite insurer, offering propositions spanning personal home, motor, pet, travel, landlord and life insurance. Honey Insurance runs a digital platform focused on delivering streamlined insurance experiences to Australian consumers.

The agreement builds on an existing relationship between the pair, who joined forces in March 2026 to launch a pet insurance product.

Zurich head of general insurance Alex Morgan said, “Australians are increasingly seeking competitive and innovative solutions for the protection of their assets, particularly as the risk landscape continues to intensify.”

He added, “Our partnership delivers a compelling proposition that draws upon Zurich’s strong capital foundation and technical capability and Honey’s digital distribution model, representing a clear opportunity to develop the customer experience and competitive offering in the Australian general insurance market.”

“More broadly, it marks an important milestone for Zurich as we continue to grow and scale our presence as Australia’s only major composite insurer, with propositions across personal home, motor, pet, travel, landlord and life insurance,” Mr Morgan said.

Honey Insurance CEO David Krawitz said, “Zurich’s underwriting depth and claims expertise is the ideal complement to Honey’s digital platform and distribution reach. Together, we’re well placed to keep delivering the kind of smart, seamless insurance experience Australian consumers deserve.”

“We’re proud of what we’ve built with Zurich through our pet insurance partnership, and bringing that same approach to home, landlord and motor insurance is a natural next step for us,” Mr Krawitz added.
