Verisk, a strategic data analytics and technology partner serving the worldwide insurance sector, has completed the purchase of McKenzie Intelligence Services (MIS), a firm specialising in geospatial intelligence and event response with a focus on real-time analysis of catastrophes and conflicts around the globe.
MIS delivers swift damage evaluations following major loss events, alongside military-grade intelligence and practical insights that support decision-making in real time.
The deal is designed to strengthen catastrophe event response, spanning alerts issued ahead of an event through to the quantification of exposure and damage once it has passed, equipping insurers, reinsurers, brokers and loss adjusters with the intelligence needed to act rapidly.
It also builds on Verisk’s position in Strikes, Riots and Civil Commotion (SRCC) and political violence risk analytics, adding incident-level intelligence that becomes active while events are still unfolding.
By pulling together and examining geospatial data from multiple sources, MIS offers (re)insurers timely and accurate insights that underpin financial and operational choices, property-level damage evaluations, claims resolution, portfolio exposure estimation, claims triage and litigation support.
MIS will be folded into Verisk’s Catastrophe and Risk Solutions unit, where its real-time geospatial capabilities will sit alongside catastrophe risk modelling, global loss indexes, advanced analytics and risk data. Combined with Verisk Maplecroft’s monitoring of external risks across operations, supply chains and investments, the enlarged offering aims to give clients a more joined-up picture of emerging threats, enabling earlier preparation and quicker responses.
The unit recently launched Verisk Synergy Studio, a cloud-native platform bringing catastrophe modelling, exposure management and risk analytics into one environment.
In 2025, the company also purchased Verisk Model Exchange, a vendor-neutral catastrophe modelling platform that allows multiple independent views of catastrophe risk to be assessed on a consistent financial engine. Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions forms part of AIR Worldwide Corporation, a wholly owned Verisk Analytics subsidiary.
Verisk Catastrophe and Risk Solutions president Rob Newbold said, “Verisk and MIS share a commitment to helping clients make faster, more confident decisions before, during, and after catastrophic events.
“By bringing MIS’s real-time geospatial intelligence together with Verisk’s catastrophe models, risk analytics, and claims solutions, we can give clients a more complete view of unfolding events so they can assess impacts, prioritize response and support policyholders more effectively.”
MIS founder Forbes McKenzie said, “We’ve worked with Verisk to integrate real-time event data for rapid accumulation analysis, so it felt like a natural fit to join the team, especially as catastrophes grow increasingly disruptive around the world. Together with Verisk’s risk modelling and claims solutions, we can help insurers better serve policyholders during their most challenging moments.”
