Decade, an AI-native wealth advisory company built to serve Brazilian savers, has stepped out of stealth mode after closing an $85m seed round, the largest seed financing ever secured by a Latin American startup.
The round was led by Greenoaks, with participation from Benchmark and Diffusion, a bet on a founding team already credited with shaping much of Brazil’s banking infrastructure and a strategy built around applying artificial intelligence to financial advice at scale.
Rather than launching another bank, brokerage or investment app, Decade wants to hand ordinary savers the kind of financial guidance historically reserved for the ultra-wealthy and the teams of advisers built around them, positioning itself as the foundation for what it hopes will become a new wave of Brazilian millionaires.
The launch comes against a backdrop of rapid financial innovation in Brazil, where the Pix instant payment system now handles close to 100 billion transactions a year and has become a reference point studied by central banks worldwide, while Open Finance rules have given citizens standardised access to their own financial data ahead of most other markets.
Despite this progress, only around a third of Brazilians hold any form of investment and just 7% can fund their own retirement from savings, with the sheer volume of products and information making sound financial decisions harder to reach rather than easier.
Decade’s model pairs each client with a senior human adviser working alongside a proprietary AI system that retains full knowledge of a client’s financial history and every prior conversation, using this context to analyse markets and portfolios beyond the capacity of a single adviser working alone.
The adviser, in turn, supplies judgement and relationship knowledge the AI model cannot replicate, with the pairing designed to track clients’ spending and portfolios continuously so decisions can be made, and compounded, over long periods.
Co-founder and chief executive Vitor Olivier was among Nubank’s earliest engineers before rising to chief technology officer as the bank grew into Latin America’s largest digital lender, serving more than 100 million customers.
Co-founder and head of AI Felipe Meneses, the first Brazilian to win a Thiel Fellowship, previously founded Hyperplane, an AI company serving financial institutions that was later acquired by Nubank, a deal that brought the pair together to lead some of the bank’s largest AI initiatives.
Decade co-founder and chief executive Vitor Olivier said, “Managing your own money is a second job. Perform it well, and you can achieve your dreams, build a family, take care of yourself and those around you. Perform it poorly and you’ll be indebted and anxious, one disease away from bankruptcy; structurally unable to retire. Too many people are in the business of making you perform your second job poorly.”
Decade co-founder and head of AI Felipe Meneses said, “Even a year ago, it would have been impossible to build what we’re building.” He added, “Financial services are complex by design and often monetized through asymmetry of information. AI collapses that asymmetry. Decade is AI-native from day one: agents that read every statement, monitor every position, and reason across your entire balance sheet, continuously. That level of attention used to be reserved for the ultra-rich. Now we can create an entire generation of millionaires.”
