Hopae Connect has expanded its identity verification network into Southeast Asia, adding support for the Philippines National ID and Indonesia’s NIK, a move that gives its customers instant access to more than 280 million identities across the region’s two largest populations.
The expansion comes as Southeast Asia cements its position as one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies, with national digital identity infrastructure increasingly viewed as the backbone of that growth. For platforms operating across borders, the ability to verify identities at scale without juggling multiple local vendors has become a competitive necessity rather than a nice-to-have.
On the Philippine side, Hopae Connect now covers more than 90 million National ID holders, supporting physical cards, paper IDs and digital formats. Verification works by scanning the official QR code on the card, allowing the platform to extract and confirm the holder’s authoritative personal data while checking authenticity, removing the need for manual document checks.
In Indonesia, the company has added support for the Nomor Induk Kependudukan (NIK), the universal national identification number that underpins the country’s banking, employment and government systems, covering more than 190 million individuals. Verification here goes further, cross-checking name, date of birth and NIK number against government records before layering on a selfie-to-reference facial match.
That combination pushes the process beyond simple data validation into biometric identity binding, a step intended to reduce fraud and impersonation risk.
The bigger strategic play is Hopae Connect’s single API model. Historically, businesses expanding into new markets have had to navigate fragmented vendor ecosystems and build bespoke integrations country by country, an approach that slows growth and adds engineering cost.
By folding the Philippine and Indonesian rails into its existing global API, Hopae Connect is positioning itself as a shortcut for platforms wanting regional reach without regional complexity, adding the new coverage with no additional integration work required for existing customers.
