FinTech firms are under growing pressure to keep their workforces ahead of rapidly changing technology, but finding the time for employees to build new skills can be just as difficult as identifying which skills they need.
nCino’s Day of Learning has grown from an employee idea into a company-wide initiative, with certifications earned on the day increasing from 12 to 54 during its first year. According to an nCino blog analysis, the initiative gives employees one full day each quarter to step away from their regular responsibilities and focus on learning. The programme covers product certifications, technical training and broader professional development. The first Day of Learning took place in June 2025, with the fourth edition held in June 2026.
nCino global learning & enablement specialist Jennifer Adams said, “You’ve got to stop and sharpen your own tools in your toolbox,” explaining how the initiative came about. Adams spent most of her 13 years at nCino training customers on-site and running boot camps for new hires before moving into a role focused on employee development.
The idea developed after nCino brought its enablement teams, comprising around 70 people across four departments, under one global structure. Adams moved from Customer Success into People Operations, where she noticed employee satisfaction surveys repeatedly highlighted demand for clearer professional development opportunities.
The original proposal focused on product certification days, but colleagues in People Operations and Talent Acquisition encouraged Adams to broaden the concept. She subsequently pitched the idea to nCino’s executive team as a dedicated day for employees to learn about the company, its products and their careers.
Adams said, “Why don’t we just take a whole day?”
Making the programme accessible across nCino’s global workforce presented an early challenge. Employees at the Wilmington headquarters attended the office on Fridays, while teams in locations including Tokyo and London did not. The company therefore made sessions available online and scheduled US sessions on Thursday afternoons so colleagues in Asia-Pacific could participate.
As the initiative has developed, teams have increasingly created their own sessions and certifications to coincide with the Day of Learning.
The Consulting Mindset online certification was the most popular track during the latest edition. The programme originated in Customer Success, where employees wanted to develop a more consultative approach, before being expanded across the company. It attracted 35 participants on the day and has since passed 60.
nCino associate manager of professional services Gary Turner worked with manager of professional services Devon Smith to create a dedicated agenda for the Managed Services team, including topics selected through employee feedback and sessions with internal speakers.
Turner said, “Across the board, all of our speakers were happy to assist.”
The initiative has also supported technical development. nCino University senior trainer Matt Zeboor attended an Office Hours session on nCino Integration Gateway after preparing for customer training earlier in the day.
Zeboor said, “Learning that much about such a technical topic in one hour was honestly my big surprise of the day.”
The session attracted 127 people across the US and Canada.
Zeboor added, “As a former teacher, having a full day set aside for learning tells me nCino values my knowledge and skill development. It makes it so much easier to fit into an otherwise packed schedule of trainings and prep.”
The programme’s growth is reflected in nCino’s internal learning figures. Logins to its LevelUP learning platform increased from 278 to 438, while course completions rose from 648 to 815. Certifications earned on the Day of Learning climbed from 12 to 54, more than four times the previous year.
The next editions are scheduled for 18 September and 4 December, with the dates set in advance to help employees plan around the programme.
The nCino blog analysis shows how what began as an employee proposal has developed into a recurring company-wide initiative, with teams increasingly taking ownership of sessions and certifications.
