Ingenico’s €150m deal fuels next-gen payments push

Ingenico

Ingenico, a global provider of payment acceptance technology serving retailers, banks, acquirers and FinTechs worldwide, has agreed a deal to reshape its capital structure, backed by a €150m investment from a group of global investors led by PIMCO.

The fresh capital is earmarked for speeding up product development and sharpening customer service standards, building on a reputation the company says it has built over the years for reliable, durable and locally supported technology.

Floris de Kort, who recently took over as chief executive, is steering Ingenico towards cloud-based, next-generation payment acceptance technology, with the goal of making the business a quicker, more straightforward and more valuable partner to its customers across the globe.

Central to that push is the continued rollout of Ingenico’s AXIUM range of Android devices, aimed at retailers, banks, acquirers and FinTechs. Built on a shared architecture, the devices are designed for security and durability, offering a straightforward user experience, integrated payment capabilities and the flexibility to upgrade to newer versions of Android once deployed in the field.

Sitting alongside AXIUM is Ingenico 360, the company’s cloud platform that draws together device management, transaction processing, applications and analytics under one roof. The company has also built out a Developer Journey programme, giving partners and independent software vendors access to APIs, tools and documentation so they can build, certify and bring new services to market more quickly.

Part of the new funding will go towards expanding Ingenico’s Customer Excellence division and widening its international presence, with new offices opening in London, San Francisco and Istanbul. The moves are intended to place account managers, solutions engineers and customer support managers nearer to clients and partners in major markets around the world.

Ingenico CEO Floris de Kort said, “This agreement gives Ingenico the ability to move faster on the priorities that matter most: building great products, simplifying payment operations and delivering for our customers and partners. With a strong balance sheet and new capital in place, we can execute better and invest in the areas that will define our next phase. We have the foundation, the priorities, and a team that knows how to deliver. I’ve never been more confident that Ingenico’s best years are ahead of us.”
