Unlimit, a global financial infrastructure company, has secured a money service operator licence in Hong Kong, strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and enabling it to develop local payment channels from the city.
The licence was granted by Hong Kong’s Commissioner of Customs and Excise and will allow Unlimit to establish a local base for payment services in the territory. Unlimit said the approval will provide businesses operating across APAC with a more direct way to move funds within Hong Kong and across borders.
Unlimit is positioning the licence as part of its broader expansion across Asia-Pacific, rather than as a standalone regulatory milestone. Founded in 2009 and headquartered in San Francisco and London, Unlimit operates 17 offices worldwide. Its clients include Xiaomi, Telegram, Convera and inDrive. The company was founded by CEO Kirill Eves.
The importance of Hong Kong to global payments and foreign exchange is reflected in its position as the world’s fourth-largest foreign exchange centre, according to the 2025 Triennial Central Bank Survey. Average daily foreign exchange turnover in the city reached $883bn in April 2025, representing a 27% increase from April 2022.
Unlimit describes its infrastructure as being designed for the emerging agentic economy. Its payment network covers more than 180 countries and supports more than 150 currencies, with connections to local payment systems intended to support cross-border transactions for businesses, consumers and AI agents.
Through Stable.com, its financial platform, Unlimit also provides a global account with local payment details, alongside multi-currency balances, cards and treasury management. The platform also provides access to tokenised assets and non-custodial decentralised finance (DeFi).
Unlimit head of APAC Michele Fung said, “Asia-Pacific is not a unified payments market. Companies entering new markets in the region must navigate different currencies, payment systems and regulatory requirements.” Fung added, “The Hong Kong licence will enable us to help them manage this complexity and move money across borders as they grow.”
