Fime targets digital trust as it snaps up Red Alert Labs

Fime

Fime has acquired Red Alert Labs, an accredited cybersecurity evaluation, certification and compliance automation specialist, as part of its push to widen its assurance offering.

The deal brings cybersecurity evaluation, certification expertise and compliance automation into Fime’s existing capabilities, adding a new pillar to a business that has so far concentrated on payments, smart mobility and digital identity.

Central to the acquisition is Red Alert Labs’ CyberPass platform, which automates compliance work: alongside accredited security evaluation, it lets manufacturers assess and continually improve their readiness, while giving certification schemes a way to manage and scale assessment and certification processes.

Fime frames the acquisition as a response to digital ecosystems becoming more interconnected, meaning trust can no longer be handled in isolated pockets.

Payments, digital identities, connected devices and AI-enabled services are converging around common requirements: security, interoperability, compliance and proof that technologies keep working as intended over time.

The company’s stated ambition is to build the trust infrastructure that lets these ecosystems scale, drawing on combined expertise, testing and assurance platforms, and independent evaluation and certification across a product’s lifecycle.

Timing is a factor too. New cybersecurity rules are landing this year, with Cyber Resilience Act reporting obligations applying from 11 September 2026 and the Act’s main obligations following on 11 December 2027.

That regulatory shift means manufacturers will need to prove cybersecurity compliance on an ongoing basis, not only when a product first launches, which is where Fime sees Red Alert Labs’ continuous-assurance approach adding value.

Fime has built its reputation over three decades primarily in payments testing and certification, later extending into digital identity and smart mobility. With this acquisition, the two companies plan to support customers across the full lifecycle: advisory work and security by design, through implementation, testing, evaluation and certification, and on into continuous assurance, bringing cybersecurity under the same umbrella as its existing payments and identity work.

Red Alert Labs will keep operating as an accredited, independent cybersecurity laboratory, retaining the accreditations and technical autonomy it has built its name on. It will now trade under the identity “Red Alert Labs, cybersecurity by Fime”, pairing its security expertise and technology with Fime’s international reach and testing infrastructure.

Fime CEO Lionel Grosclaude said, “Our ambition is to make Fime a global Digital Trust Provider. For more than three decades, we have helped build trust in payments, and we have extended that expertise into digital identity and smart mobility. Cybersecurity is the next natural step.

“These markets are converging: customers increasingly need to prove not only that a product works and interoperates, but that it is secure, compliant and remains trustworthy throughout its lifecycle. Red Alert Labs brings us world-class cybersecurity expertise together with a platform approach that will help us deliver that trust at scale.”

Red Alert Labs founder and managing director Roland Atoui said, “Red Alert Labs was built around the idea that cybersecurity assurance needs to become scalable and continuous.

“Joining Fime gives us the opportunity to combine our accredited evaluation expertise and CyberPass platform with Fime’s global testing, certification and digital trust capabilities. Together, we can help manufacturers continuously assess their compliance readiness, help schemes industrialize certification, and extend cybersecurity trust into digital identity, wallets and emerging agentic ecosystems.”
