Zopa rolls out targeted support for new investors

Zopa, the UK digital bank serving two million customers, has introduced a targeted support service for people using its investment product, making it the first British bank to roll out this new type of regulated assistance after securing permission in May 2026.

The service is designed to sit between broad, one-size-fits-all guidance and full financial advice. When signing up to Zopa’s Investments offering, users can choose to get help selecting a fund by completing a nine-question assessment. The questions explore what kind of investor they are, how comfortable they are with risk, how confident they feel making decisions and how they react when outcomes are uncertain. Zopa then draws on those answers, together with data on how people with comparable profiles have chosen to invest, to point each customer towards a fund that matches their profile.

Zopa moved into investments with the aim of supporting the estimated 15 million people in Britain sitting on surplus cash, taking an approach that puts education first. Customers can pick from two ready-made funds, Balanced and Bold, which have delivered average yearly returns of 5.86% and 10.47% respectively.

Both are run by Invesco, a global asset manager overseeing more than $2tn, and are linked into the Zopa platform through API infrastructure from Upvest. Getting started takes only a few minutes, with a minimum investment of £1.

Zopa Bank chief strategy officer Merve Ferrero said, “We’ve seen a persistent gap between people’s intention to invest and their confidence to take that first step, even when they have meaningful cash savings. Too many consumers are unsure whether investing is right for them, whether they can make good decisions, or how much risk they should take. Our targeted support service is designed to close that gap, giving first-time investors the confidence and clarity to get started and make their money work harder — with greater peace of mind.”
