U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest commercial bank in the US, has launched Payment Switch, a digital tool that allows customers to redirect recurring bills and subscriptions to a U.S. Bank debit or credit card directly through its mobile app.
The feature sits within the bank’s Bills & Subscriptions dashboard, enabling customers to update payment methods for services such as streaming platforms, mobile phone contracts and utilities in a few taps. Users can make the changes without logging into individual merchant websites or relying on third-party services. The tool is available to both new and existing customers.
The dashboard also gives users a consolidated view of recurring payments and subscriptions, helping them track spending and identify unexpected charges. It flags upcoming payments, highlights spending patterns and alerts customers when recurring amounts differ from previous months. Eligible subscriptions can also be cancelled through the platform, allowing customers to identify price increases and review their ongoing expenses.
U.S. Bank developed Payment Switch with FinTech firm Atomic, which also powers the bank’s automated direct deposit setup. The launch adds a third component to U.S. Bank Easy Switch, a guided process designed to help customers transfer their banking relationships.
Through Easy Switch, customers can open an account, move their direct deposit and transfer recurring payments within a single process. By bringing these functions together, the bank aims to simplify account migration and reduce the risk of missed payments when customers switch providers.
The launch highlights how banks are using digital tools to make account switching more straightforward, while giving customers additional reasons to manage their financial activity within their existing banking apps. By combining payment migration with subscription monitoring and cancellation features, U.S. Bank is seeking to make its platform more useful for everyday financial management.
U.S. Bancorp, the parent company of U.S. Bank National Association, is headquartered in Minneapolis. Its three main business lines serve 15 million clients worldwide, supported by a workforce of almost 70,000. The group ranks 110th on the Fortune 500.
Payment Switch forms part of a wider series of updates to the bank’s Bank Smartly customer experience. This combines U.S. Bank Smartly Checking, U.S. Bank Smartly Savings and the U.S. Bank Smartly Signature Visa card with Smart Rewards benefits and an expanding range of digital services. Another recent addition is U.S. Bank Protect 360, which is designed to help customers manage and safeguard their finances.
