Ondato taps Trinsic as EU digital identity wallets loom

Ondato has partnered with Trinsic so its clients can verify customers using digital identity, a move timed to the EU’s rollout of digital identity wallets.

Under the arrangement, Trinsic will supply the infrastructure that powers Ondato’s new digital identity capability. The deal comes as several EU member states begin launching wallets under the European Digital Identity (EUDI) framework.

eIDAS 2.0, formally Regulation (EU) 2024/1183, requires each of the 27 EU member states to make at least one digital identity wallet available to citizens before the close of 2026. The wallets take the form of mobile apps, either issued or recognised by governments, which let people confirm who they are and choose to share verified personal details with regulated organisations.

From December 2027, banks, financial institutions and other regulated firms that rely on strong user authentication must accept these wallets for customer verification whenever a user asks to use one.

Ondato is building out its capabilities ahead of that shift. The wallet functionality extends the national digital identity options the company already supports, including Smart-ID, and will sit within its wider customer intelligence platform.

Like its other verification methods, wallet-based checks will contribute to risk scoring, ongoing fraud monitoring and detection, and improvements across the customer journey.

Ondato provides regulated businesses with a single platform spanning identity, risk and customer journey management, with services covering IDV/KYC, AML and age verification.

Trinsic positions itself as a digital ID gateway for identity verification and already supports national identity authentication services in member states including France, Italy, Denmark and Austria.

Ondato co-founder and CEO Liudas Kanapienis said, “EU digital identity wallets are the biggest change in a generation to how Europeans prove who they are. For many regulated businesses, accepting them won’t be optional.

“With Trinsic, our clients can accept wallets as they launch, on the same platform they already use for verification, risk and monitoring. It’s another step in our expansion as the intelligence layer between businesses and their customers, in Europe and beyond.”

Trinsic CEO Riley Hughes added, “As the leading digital ID gateway for identity verification, Trinsic has been preparing for EUDI since the earliest phase of the mandate. We already support national identity authentication services for France, Italy, Denmark, Austria, and other member states.

“With this partnership, we’re providing the necessary technology backing for Ondato’s customers amidst the most important European digital ID mandate of the decade.”
