SBC opens transaction banking data to corporate AI tools

Global banking group HSBC has launched HSBCnio, an AI-enabled transaction banking platform designed to bring its corporate and institutional services into one digital environment, while allowing clients to connect their own AI systems to authorised banking data.

The platform reflects a shift in how banks are making their services available to corporate customers, with greater emphasis on integrating financial information into the tools businesses already use. Through HSBCnio, clients can access banking services through web and mobile channels using their existing HSBCnet credentials and permissions, or connect internal systems directly through APIs.

One of the platform’s central features is HSBC’s adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which allows corporate clients’ AI tools to access authorised account and transaction data on a read-only basis. This gives treasury teams a way to incorporate AI into existing workflows without bypassing established access permissions or data safeguards.

The approach is intended to reduce the time finance teams spend retrieving and interpreting banking information, helping them make decisions with greater speed and visibility. Potential applications include liquidity forecasting, variance analysis, reviewing cross-border cash positions and generating reports.

HSBCnio also combines a redesigned digital interface with embedded connectivity for corporate users. Through the platform, businesses can review cash positions and transactions, arrange trade loans and foreign exchange (FX), and track payments. The interface is designed to make it easier for treasury teams to identify activity requiring attention.

For businesses looking to integrate the service into their own technology environments, HSBC is providing API documentation, software development kits and a sandbox. These resources are intended to support testing and integration before clients move into live production.

The bank plans to expand the platform’s MCP capabilities over time, bringing more transaction banking services into clients’ AI-powered workflows. It is also developing “Ask HSBC”, an AI-enabled tool intended to help customers ask questions about and interpret their banking data.

The launch comes as Hong Kong seeks to strengthen its position as a centre for corporate treasury operations. Around 4,000 multinational companies operate regional headquarters and offices in the city, according to the Census and Statistics Department. In June 2026, the government introduced its Action Plan to Promote the Development of Corporate Treasury Centres, aiming to attract more multinational businesses to establish treasury operations locally.

HSBCnio forms part of the bank’s support for companies managing regional and cross-border financial activity, where treasury teams must oversee cash and payments across different markets, currencies and entities.

HSBC head of global payments solutions, Greater China, Yvonne Yiu said, “Hong Kong’s role as a hub for regional headquarters means businesses are managing flows across markets, currencies and entities. Treasury teams are increasingly expected to manage more than day-to-day cash and payments, but also to turn complex data into timely decisions. HSBCnio helps bring banking information and services into the tools and workflows clients already use, helping shorten the path from seeing what is happening to deciding what to do next. With secure access and AI-enabled capabilities, it supports more agile, future-ready treasury management for businesses operating in Hong Kong and across the region.”
