dLocal and Uphold partnership: Expanding payment flexibility in emerging markets

dLocal, the leading cross-border payment platform specialising in high-growth markets, has joined forces with Topper, a service from Uphold known for its multi-asset digital money platform.

This strategic partnership leverages dLocal’s extensive payment processing expertise alongside Uphold’s innovative financial solutions.

The collaboration aims to enhance financial accessibility across emerging markets, targeting regions where traditional banking services are less prevalent and the reliance on alternative payment methods is high.

dLocal excels in facilitating cross-border payment capabilities in high-growth markets, effectively handling local payment methods to maximise market penetration. On the other hand, Uphold operates a versatile financial platform that supports a wide array of assets and currencies, renowned for its “Anything-to-Anything” trading model that simplifies transactions across different asset types.

The partnership will enable Topper by Uphold to introduce bespoke payment solutions in Latin American markets such as Brazil and Mexico, including specialised bank transfers in Chile and Colombia. This initiative is designed to overcome the limitations posed by conventional payment methods, broadening the scope of financial services available to consumers in these regions.

By integrating dLocal’s robust payment infrastructure with Uphold’s expansive financial network, the partnership promises to offer a more inclusive financial ecosystem that caters to the unique needs of users in emerging markets, emphasising the importance of localisation in financial technology.

Robin O’Connell, CEO, Enterprise at Uphold, commented, “”Enabling our users to access local currencies and offering a variety of payment methods is crucial to our mission of providing accessible financial services to everyone.

“Partnering with an expert as dLocal allows us to break down barriers and offer a seamless, inclusive financial experience to our users in our markets.”

Justo Benetti, SVP Head of Americas at dLocal, remarked, “Collaborating with Topper by Uphold to introduce alternative payment methods (APMs) in such a complex and high-growth industry is a testament to our commitment to financial inclusion.

“We are excited to expand our reach and continue offering innovative payment solutions that cater to the diverse needs of users across emerging markets.”
