GCBC launches digital platform to empower EMDEs with climate finance

The Global Capacity Building Coalition, a pivotal player in climate finance, has introduced its latest innovation, the Digital Platform.

According to ESG News, launched initially at COP28, the coalition has rapidly expanded, growing its membership from 19 founding entities to over 50 organizations globally.

The platform was created to tackle significant barriers in climate finance within emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). A recent survey by GCBC highlighted that 75% of financial institutions in these regions face severe challenges in accessing necessary resources.

The Coalition aims to facilitate the transition to net-zero economies by providing robust support to financial institutions in EMDEs. It serves as a critical conduit for resources, knowledge, and global collaboration in climate finance.

The newly launched platform offers a suite of tools to enhance the efficiency and reach of climate finance efforts. It includes a Knowledge Hub filled with vital resources, a map of case studies demonstrating scalable projects, and a global events calendar to foster learning and networking.

In addition to these resources, the platform incorporates real-time feedback mechanisms to continuously refine and expand its offerings. This feature underscores GCBC’s commitment to adaptive improvement based on user engagement.

The coalition’s extensive network includes over 5,000 members spanning public and private financial sectors and professionals across various regions. This diverse membership plays a crucial role in the platform’s global outreach and impact.

“Supporting emerging markets and developing economies in their transition to net zero is crucial to preventing the worst impacts of climate change,” Mary Schapiro, Chair of the GCBC, emphasized. Michael R. Bloomberg, U.N. Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions, also highlighted the platform’s role in reducing emissions and driving sustainable growth, stating, “This platform will give free resources and technical assistance to leaders in developing countries to help them cut emissions, drive economic growth, improve public health, and save lives.”
