Commonwealth Bank, a leading provider of personal banking services in the Bahamas, has announced a new partnership with Apple to bring Apple Pay to its customers in the country.
The partnership enables Commonwealth Bank cardholders in the Bahamas to access Apple Pay, providing a safer, more secure and private way to make payments using their Apple devices.
This move is aimed at enhancing digital payment options for consumers, offering them a convenient and secure contactless payment method.
Commonwealth Bank is known for its consumer banking services throughout the Bahamas, including a strong focus on credit and prepaid card offerings.
Apple, a global leader in consumer electronics and digital services, offers Apple Pay as a mobile payment and digital wallet solution, allowing users to pay in-store, in-app and online with ease.
Apple Pay users can make contactless payments by double-clicking the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticating with Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, and holding the device near a payment terminal. The payment is secured with a one-time unique dynamic security code. Apple Pay is accepted in a wide range of merchants, including grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops and retail outlets.
The digital wallet also simplifies online shopping. Users can make fast and convenient purchases in apps or on websites using their iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac without the need to repeatedly enter card or shipping details.
Security and privacy are key pillars of Apple Pay. When a Commonwealth Bank card is added to Apple Pay, the actual card number is neither stored on the device nor on Apple’s servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is generated, encrypted, and stored in the Secure Element — a certified chip designed to safely store payment information on the device.
Setting up Apple Pay is straightforward. Users can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the plus symbol, and follow the prompts to add their Commonwealth Bank credit or prepaid card. Once added, the card can be used immediately across supported Apple devices. Customers also continue to enjoy all the existing benefits and rewards associated with their Commonwealth Bank cards.
