Rome-based cybersecurity company Exein, which specialises in embedded security solutions for IoT devices, has raised €70m in a Series C funding round to support its global expansion and product innovation efforts.
The round was led by Balderton and included participation from Supernova and Lakestar, with continued support from previous backers 33N, United Ventures, and Partech.
Exein provides a real-time cybersecurity platform that operates at the device level, offering a “digital immune system” for connected hardware. Its technology is trusted by leading chipset makers and device manufacturers including MediaTek, Supermicro, Kontron, SECO, and AAEON, with the platform already protecting over 1bn devices.
The newly secured capital will be used to accelerate Exein’s international growth, with a focus on key markets such as the United States, Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea. The company will also enhance its product suite, including next-generation runtime security solutions designed for AI infrastructure and large language models (LLMs).
This funding also positions Exein to pursue strategic acquisitions and extend its influence across the cybersecurity ecosystem. The company noted it has seen 450% year-on-year growth following its Series B round in July 2024, highlighting its strong momentum and the rising urgency around securing connected infrastructure.
Exein’s solutions also support compliance with emerging global regulations such as the EU’s Cyber Resilience Act, RED 3.3 directive, and the US Cyber Trust Mark, making its offering increasingly relevant amid evolving legal requirements for device-level security.
Exein CEO Gianni Cuozzo said, “Exein’s extraordinary growth is a testament to the urgent demand to secure devices which are ubiquitous in our everyday lives. Embedded security at the device level is fundamental, and we are proud to support manufacturers in providing the highest levels of security, offering them confidence in knowing they are compliant with the latest security legislation. I’m extremely proud to be fortifying the foundations of European tech innovation, and to have the trust of our partners and investors as we expand globally and continue our mission of building the digital immune system for the connected world.”
Balderton principal Elena Moneta added, “We’re living in an era where everything — from rail networks to industrial machinery — is connected, and therefore exposed. Exein tackles this threat where it begins: on the device itself, embedding real-time security on the edge — continuously monitoring, learning, and responding. There is no better team to take on this challenge.”
