American Airlines, a major US-based carrier with a vast global route network, and Mastercard, a leading global payment technology company, have renewed their long-standing co-branded credit card partnership.
The collaboration aims to expand cardmember benefits, drive payment innovation, and enhance rewards for AAdvantage members, according to FF News.
The renewed partnership will see Mastercard remain the exclusive payment network for American’s co-branded credit cards. The extension focuses on improving the AAdvantage® programme by delivering more personalised, tech-enabled travel experiences through data-driven rewards and seamless payment solutions.
American Airlines operates one of the world’s largest fleets, serving hundreds of destinations worldwide. Its AAdvantage® loyalty programme is recognised as one of the industry’s most comprehensive frequent flyer programmes. Mastercard, meanwhile, provides secure, scalable, and innovative payment technology used across banking, travel, and commerce sectors worldwide. The company is known for its real-time fraud detection, analytics, and cardholder experience platforms.
Through the renewed agreement, American will enhance its AAdvantage® programme using Mastercard’s analytics and infrastructure to create tailored rewards and offers. The cardholder experience will be elevated with seamless payment processes and advanced fraud protection across all stages of travel — from booking to onboard transactions. Additionally, the partnership will unlock new opportunities for AAdvantage® members to redeem miles for Mastercard Priceless Experiences.
A key benefit of this collaboration is access to unique, curated experiences. Cardmembers will have the chance to enjoy upgraded travel privileges and VIP access to major cultural events, sporting meet-and-greets, and exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences — all designed to make each journey memorable.
As the companies look to the future, the partnership will continue to evolve, integrating more personalised and innovative offerings that align with the needs of today’s global traveller.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said, “American is proud to collaborate with Mastercard to deliver best-in-class travel solutions for our AAdvantage® co-branded credit cardmembers. Together, we are rewarding our mutual customers with travel experiences that make their journeys truly special.”
Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach said, “We’re incredibly proud of our partnership with American Airlines and the nearly 40 years of priceless experiences, benefits and innovation the program has brought to cardholders. Looking to the future, we’ll continue to bring our expanded suite of products and services to deliver what cardmembers want: personalized offers, valuable rewards, fraud protection and opportunities to explore their passions.”
