Clover has announced the launch of a new identity-based payments capability through a collaboration with Wink.
The new product has been introduced in response to growing demand from merchants for faster, more secure and more personalised checkout experiences, as well as increasing pressure to reduce fraud and operational friction at the point of sale. By moving beyond traditional card-based transactions, Clover aims to help merchants improve conversion, reduce queues and enhance customer loyalty without adding complexity to day-to-day operations.
Fiserv provides payments, financial services technology and solutions to financial institutions, merchants and consumers worldwide. Through its Clover platform, the company supports businesses of all sizes with point-of-sale hardware, software and integrated services designed to streamline payments, commerce and business management across in-store and digital environments.
The new product integrates Wink’s face, palm and voice biometric payments technology directly into the Clover platform, combining identity, payments and intelligence into a single checkout experience. Using AI-powered biometrics, merchants can authenticate customers quickly and securely, enabling faster transactions while helping to protect against fraud. The solution uses a secure token vault to manage biometric profiles, ensuring sensitive biometric data is not stored alongside payment credentials.
Beyond payments, the product also supports loyalty enrolment and identity-driven experiences, allowing repeat customers to be recognised instantly without cards, devices or manual verification. The integration is designed to work across Clover’s full device family, including Station Duo, Mini, Flex and Clover Kiosk, with no additional hardware requirements.
The rollout will initially focus on quick-service restaurants, sports venues and retail environments, where speed and throughput are critical, with broader availability planned throughout 2026. Consumers benefit from contactless biometric recognition that is designed to meet strict requirements around payments, data protection and regulatory compliance.
Additional functionality includes age-restricted commerce without physical IDs, reduced staff intervention at checkout, and the ability to link in-store, mobile and online experiences through a single biometric identity. Clover merchants can also use the technology to reduce fraudulent transactions through Wink’s AI-based human presence assurance capabilities.
Fiserv SVP and global chief product officer, merchant solutions, Sanjay Saraf said, “The future of commerce is the unification of payment and identity,” adding, “By embedding Wink’s leading biometric security and intelligence directly into the Clover platform, we’re making cutting-edge technology simple, secure, and accessible for Main Street SMB businesses, helping them to deliver exceptional experiences and unlock new opportunities for growth.”
Wink founder and CEO Deepak Jain said, “Wink’s strategic integration with Clover will bring unparalleled security, speed, and intelligence to every transaction across a large ecosystem of merchants, app developers and partners,” adding, “We are excited to work closely with Fiserv to bring to market many advanced use cases of identity-driven payments that will define the future of connected commerce at scale across retail, hospitality, venues, and stadiums.”
