LSEG launches Identity Gateway for digital ID access

LSEG Risk Intelligence, the risk and identity verification arm of the London Stock Exchange Group, has unveiled Identity Gateway, a new infrastructure layer built to streamline access to trusted digital identity schemes across multiple markets.

The product offers organisations a single, standardised API and commercial framework through which they can connect to government-backed and regulated private digital identity schemes simultaneously, rather than managing separate integrations market by market.

Built on Microsoft Azure, Identity Gateway is designed to cut the time needed to go live by as much as 80–90% compared with building individual connections independently, where each market integration can otherwise take several months.

A key challenge the platform targets is the growing fragmentation of national and private identity schemes, which operate under differing standards, assurance levels and regulatory requirements. This complexity is set to deepen as new national initiatives take shape, notably the EU Digital Identity Wallet framework, under which each of the 27 EU member states will introduce its own digital identity implementation.

At launch, Identity Gateway covers digital identity schemes across 10 European markets, including Italy, the Netherlands, Denmark and Spain, where national schemes are already in widespread use. Further countries and identity schemes are expected to be added over time.

The solution forms part of LSEG Risk Intelligence’s broader identity verification offering, sitting alongside data-based and document-based verification methods.

LSEG Risk Intelligence head of digital identity Daniel Flowe said, “Digital identity is reaching an inflection point. As trusted national and private schemes continue to emerge, organisations need a simpler way to access them without rebuilding their identity processes market by market.

“Identity Gateway helps solve that challenge by creating a standardised access layer that supports scale, reduces complexity and enables more trusted, higher-assurance digital experiences across borders.”
