Thredd powers Pliant’s US expansion with Visa card launch

Thredd, an AI-first issuer processing platform, has expanded its partnership with Pliant, a Berlin-based commercial credit and embedded finance provider, to bring Pliant’s commercial credit card offering to businesses in the US for the first time.

The expanded collaboration enables Pliant to replicate its European commercial credit model in the US, giving businesses access to card products with real-time visibility into spending and cash flow. The programme is now live on the Visa network, with bank sponsorship from Coastal, following an initial rollout that began in late 2025 and supported the onboarding of early US customers.

Pliant’s platform combines credit issuance, lending decisioning and reconciliation capabilities within a single system, allowing businesses to manage expenses, credit facilities and reporting through one integrated solution. The company has built its offering around supporting mid-market fintechs, commercial banks and enterprises across Europe and is now extending the model into North America.

The company operates an API-first B2B payments platform that combines card issuing infrastructure with embedded spend management tools. Through its modular approach, Pliant enables banks and fintechs to launch and manage commercial card programmes for small and medium-sized businesses through to enterprise customers.

Founded in Berlin in 2020, Pliant supports card programme deployment across Europe and the US. Thredd provides cloud-based issuer processing infrastructure, offering debit, credit, digital wallet and ledger services through a single API. The US launch forms part of Pliant’s wider North American expansion strategy, with the company looking to increase its presence in the market and build on its existing commercial credit offering.

Thredd CEO Jim McCarthy said, “This partnership reflects exactly what Thredd is built for: helping proven fintechs expand into new markets quickly and with confidence. Having supported Pliant with their mature commercial credit proposition, we knew we could execute on their ambitious U.S. timelines. Together, we delivered a scalable platform that supports embedded finance, real-time reconciliation, and sustainable growth.”

Pliant CEO and co-founder Malte Rau added, “We are happy that Thredd as a global provider and trusted partner in the EU is able to support our complex use cases in the US as well.”
