Tiger Global stars as the most active FinTech investor in H1 2022

Tiger Global, an American investment firm focused on Internet, software, consumer, and financial technology, was the most active FinTech investor in the first half of 2022 with 70 deals. Tiger Global has become one of the most prolific tech investors in recent years, with investments in more startups (including FinTechs) valued over $1bn than any other firm.

Overall, there were 6,300 unique FinTech investors globally in H1 2022 with MoonPay, a payments infrastructure for crypto, being the deal with highest participation with 69 investors. On average these 6,300 investors made 1.8 investments each and only 14% of investors made more than two investments in total.

Blockchain & Crypto is the most active FinTech sector globally in H1 2022

Out of the 3,447 deals that occurred in the first half of 2022, the Blockchain & Crypto sector outshined other sectors accounting for one in five deals in H1 2022 with 704 deals in total. Global adoption of Blockchain & Crypto in Q2 2020 stood at 2.5% and this has grown rapidly to 24% in Q2 2021. This high growth is unlikely to continue at such rapid rates as countries, such as China’s ban the use of cryptocurrencies and global drops in prices due to the global cost of living crisis, scams, regulation and scepticism of coin and NFT values halting high growth, but as long as new technologies and innovations emerge, adoption and growth will continue.

The WealthTech sector raised the most amount of capital in H1 2022 with $13.9bn, an 18% share of the $76.8bn raised in global FinTech deals. FNZ, a wealth management platform, was the largest WealthTech deal in H1 2022 raising an eye watering $1.4bn in their latest Private Equity round led by CPP Investments and Motive Partners.
