InsurTech platform Sure pulls in $8m for Series A founding round

InsurTech startup Sure has received $8m for its Series A funding found, led by IA Capital.

Other contributors to the round included Menlo Ventures, FF Venture Capital, Nationwide Ventures, Assurant and AmTrust.

New York-based Sure partners with insurance companies to offer episodic and everyday insurance policies including flight, baggage, renters, pet, wedding and smartphone protection.

The service is available to all US states and on iPhone, Android and the web.

With the capital, Sure hopes to continue product development, drive user acquisition, boost marketing initiatives and make new hires.

SURE founder and CEO Wayne Slavin said, “SURE is fundamentally improving the insurance industry and making it digital through mobile tech, AI, and advanced data analytics, via our complete carrier platform in partnership with insurance companies.

“Unlike any ‘disruptors’ in this industry, we take a contrarian approach. The existing insurance industry is strong, and SURE is making it stronger with enhancements to the distribution, administration, and claims process using technology.”

Sure also announced the launch of its smartphone protection product, which remotely tests and approves insurance for a health phone no matter how old it is.
