Bitwala has released bitcoin banking for mobile phones, giving consumers the power to open a German bank account with an integrated bitcoin wallet and trading via their smartphone.
The banking app is available on iOS and Android and reduces account opening times to minutes.
Bitwala enables consumers across 30 European countries to buy, sell, and store bitcoin in a free current account. Its accounts are hosted by solarisBank, a Berlin-based tech platform with a German banking license.
The new mobile banking app includes a video identification process to verify residents through a short video of themselves, a proof of address, and a valid national ID card or passport.
Bitwala co-founder and CTO Benjamin Jones said, “Our developers have been working hard for months to provide our users with the best app experience possible. We are particularly proud, to have reduced the onboarding time for new customers.
“Onboarding is now directly integrated into the app. Once you have an account, you can seamlessly integrate your daily banking activities – whether in bitcoin or Euro – into your everyday life.”
Last year, Bitwala scored €4m in a funding round which was led by Earlybird Venture Capital and coparion.
