KB Bank taps cybersecurity firm Trustonic to boost its app’s authentication process

From: RegTech Analyst

Mobile cybersecurity company Trustonic has been implemented by KB Kookmin Bank (KB Bank) to enable a simpler authentication experience for users of the banks smartphone app.

The Korean bank has simplified the way its ten million customers can access its services through the KB Star Banking app by combining Trustonic’s solutions with its own new digital authentication certificates. Three million customers are using the app, which was launched in the summer of 2019.

“In Korea, users need to install authentication certificates to use mobile banking services,” said Han Lee, senior executive vice president of KB Bank. “This can be a complex and time-consuming process that often requires revalidation and multiple passwords. With our long-standing partner Trustonic, we are able to vastly improve the in-app user experience and allow our users to authorise much higher value transactions. Some security solutions make you choose between security, user experience and performance but with TAP there’s no compromise.”
