Lemonade launches in second European country

Digital insurance platform Lemonade has launched into its seconds European country, making the move to the Netherlands.

The company chose to enter the Netherlands after it received many requests from Dutch consumers, it claims. Consumers in the country will now have access to contents and liability insurance products instantly and for as long as they require.

Users can also file claims and get paid through the Lemonade app.

Lemonade made its debut in Europe last year when it launched operations in Germany.

The company is licenced by the Dutch Central Bank and has established its European headquarters in Amsterdam. It picked the Netherlands due to its “collaborative and seasoned regulatory environment, coupled with a centralized hub of multilingual talent.”

The InsurTech was founded in the US and is available in 26 states, with plans to launch in the rest of the country in the near future. Its platform charges a flat fee which covers everything, and if after paying claims there is money left over, it is donated to a charity of the policyholder’s choice.

Lemonade co-founder and CEO Daniel Schreiber said, “Our unique insurance policy is not only the most transparent, affordable, and mission-driven in the market, but it’s also crafted specifically for Dutch consumers, with things such as bicycle theft coverage and more.”

Earlier in the year, the company released a pet insurance policy, offering cover for cats and dogs.
