Clim8 Invest, which enables consumers to back companies having a positive impact on climate change, has stormed past its initial crowdfunding target, to raise £1.35m.
The pre-launch crowdfunding campaign was backed by 1,200 investors and closed on more than 300% higher than the initial target.
Positioned for a launch in the summer of 2020, the FinTech is a mobile investment app focused on helping investors build a portfolio of companies helping against climate change. The platform invests in clean energy, clean technology, sustainable food, electronic mobility and recycling.
There are more than 5,000 people on the company’s pre-launch waitlist, it claims.
Clim8 Invest founder and CEO Duncan Grierson said, “The mission of Clim8 is to provide an easy to use digital platform so that anyone can invest into companies that are making an impact on climate change. We are very excited to have exceeded our funding targets, confirming strongly that investors believe that sustainability investing is a growth sector.”
Among the company’s investors was venture capital firm 7percent Ventures.
Crowdcube co-founder and CMO Luke Lang said, “Clim8’s mission to make investing into clean energy and sustainable companies easier has already inspired over 1,000 investors, making it one of the most popular raises on Crowdcube this year.
“We’ve seen investment into clean tech businesses like Clim8 remain strong with several companies funding since the Covid-19 outbreak started. People want to back businesses they believe in and particularly ones aiming to have a positive impact on climate change.”
