European challenger bank bunq was set up in 2012 to rebuild trust in the banking sector after the Great Recession. Now, the FinTech is building on that with a new green promise.
The neobank has pledged to help cut global warming by planting one million trees by February 2021.
It would do that through its account option where users can opt to have bunq plant a tree in Madagascar for every €100 spent.
Founder Ali Niknam launched the Dutch company back in 2012 on the back of the financial crisis. He funded the startup through money he’d made from his first venture: the web-hosting company TransIP.
Since then, he and his team has been buys trying to change the banking sector. For instance, the neobank recently released the beta version of its latest iteration of its app.
