Digital banking software provider Backbase has opened new offices in Sydney and Melbourne as it’s vying to expand across Australia and New Zealand.
The new offices follows the launch of its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore, which it opened in January 2020.
Australia’s financial sector has undergone a massive transformation in recent years, which have seen the market open up for new challenger banks and for smaller banks to take piece of the pie previously held on to by the big four banks.
It’s this digital transformation that Backbase hopes to be able to tap into as it expands across the region.
“We’re excited to be expanding our presence in ANZ, helping banks and financial institutions in the region accelerate their journey to become digital-first,” said
Jouk Pleiter, CEO for Backbase. “Digital-first is key to cope with the challenging conditions and take advantage of the emerging opportunities.
“With accelerating customer adoption of digital and regulated open banking, the future landscape presents significant opportunities for banks with the capabilities to adapt, offering holistic financial solutions and personalising at scale.”
