A major digital cash heist has led to cryptocurrency valued at over $600m being stolen from a digital ledger used by players of the Axie Infinity online game.
According to Security Week, Ronin Network said the attack targeting its blockchain netted 173,600 ether and $25.5m worth of stablecoin, which is a digital asset pegged to the US dollar.
While the initial haul was valued at $545m previously, by yesterday the theft was valued at $615m, making it one of the biggest ever in the crypto universe.
Ronin said it was still investigating the hack, however, it said hackers had got hold of private ‘keys’ to withdraw digital funds.
The company added, “We know trust needs to be earned and are using every resource at our disposal to deploy the most sophisticated security measures and processes to prevent future attacks.”
“We are working with law enforcement officials, forensic cryptographers, and our investors to make sure there is no loss of user funds.”
