Digital Village brings UN's SDGs to metaverse

Digital Village, a developer of Web3 technology, is bringing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the metaverse through a new partnership.

The company is working with the UN SDG Action Campaign to launch a Global Week metaverse space. Players will have access to a new and exciting virtual world and contribute to a ‘wish tree’, where they virtually add messages of hope, action and peace to the tree.

The aim of the space and tree is to showcase how everyone can embrace acts of kindness and create a spectacular display of solidarity. This is also part of the UN’s campaign to ‘#FlipTheScript on prevailing narratives to achieve a healthy, just and green world, the ambitions at the heart of the SDGs.’

Speaking about the partnership, CEO Evelyn Mora said, “To #FlipTheScript means we must rewrite and re-examine the world around us. At Digital Village, we are in the business of creating and curating new worlds and are empowered to work with partners and changemakers, such as the UN SDG Action Campaign team, to shape a new reality and future that works for everyone.

“The message of our wish tree is to highlight how the power is in our hands to lead the change we all want to see.”

The metaverse is becoming an increasingly important space. FinTech Global recently spoke to several players within the insurance sector to get their thoughts on the technology. The general consensus was that the metaverse was an exciting opportunity, but it is many years away from insurance being a major part of it.

“There is still a lot of scepticism and given we’re an industry based on data and actuarial science, that is to be expected,” said Edward Halsey, co-founder and COO of InsurTech hubb, adding that insurance industry players are “likely to be followers rather than pioneers when it comes to such technologies.”
