MSCI, Google Cloud combine AI prowess to tackle climate risk for investors

MSCI

MSCI, an eminent investment data and research provider and Google Cloud have announced their collaborative endeavour.

Both companies aim to develop an advanced range of generative AI solutions tailored for the investment industry. These solutions will facilitate investors in evaluating portfolio climate risk and pinpointing opportunities for low-carbon investments.

MSCI stands as a paramount entity in the investment world, providing extensive data and research crucial for informed decision-making. On the other hand, Google Cloud excels in delivering world-class cloud computing services, aiding businesses in myriad ways with scalable and secure solutions.

This collaboration isn’t their first; the two companies initiated their partnership in January 2023. Their initial focus was on establishing a cloud-native platform for investment data acquisition and development. The platform’s primary aim was to streamline investment decision-making processes by offering vital data, insights, and solutions.

The expanded collaboration will see MSCI leveraging Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and its state-of-the-art climate technology, including BigQuery Geospatial and Earth Engine.

Moreover, the partnership’s objectives extend beyond climate-related solutions. A notable focus will be integrating MSCI’s unique data and analytics with Google Cloud’s generative AI capabilities. This will allow investors to obtain a comprehensive view of portfolio and enterprise-level risks and significantly cut down analysis time to derive actionable insights. Additionally, Google Cloud’s generative AI will energise MSCI’s brand-new conversational AI tool for its portfolio and risk management offerings.

MSCI Chairman and CEO Henry Fernandez said, “The AI revolution has led to rising expectations among companies and investors, who want faster access to higher-quality data, analytics, and actionable insights. Expanding our partnership with Google Cloud will help MSCI address these needs while keeping us at the forefront of advanced data technologies. It will also help us provide new solutions for investors working to decarbonise their portfolios.”

Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian mentioned, “Generative AI is driving the next evolution of financial services as investment professionals look for better and faster ways to monitor portfolios, generate new insights, and scale the speed of decision-making. Our partnership with MSCI to build generative AI-powered solutions will not only help risk and portfolio management teams better collaborate and unlock insights, but also will enable MSCI’s clients to build more climate-resilient portfolios.”

Jigar Thakkar, Chief Technology Officer at MSCI, added, “We are excited to collaborate with Google Cloud to accelerate the development of generative AI solutions, which will aim to offer investors deeper data-driven insights, enhanced decision-making capabilities, and accelerated portfolio implementation. With the power of generative AI and LLMs, we are advancing towards our commitment to help investors build better portfolios with enhanced insights.”
