Bloomberg unveils green-tilted fixed income indices

Bloomberg

Bloomberg, a global leader in financial data and analytics, has expanded its index offerings in the sustainable finance space.

The launch of the green-tilted fixed income indices aims to cater to the growing demand for sustainable investment options. These indices offer investors a pathway to align their portfolios with green initiatives while maintaining desired financial attributes.

Bloomberg is renowned for delivering market data, news, analytics, and other financial services. Its diverse offerings encompass various aspects of the financial industry, making it a go-to source for financial professionals worldwide.

The newly launched indices integrate insights from Bloomberg’s ESG and fixed income data teams. They allow for increased green bond weighting in some of Bloomberg’s flagship indices, such as the Global Aggregate, Treasury, and Corporate Indices. This innovation provides an opportunity for investors to boost their sustainable investments while preserving the traits of the original benchmarks.

The Bloomberg Global Aggregate 20% Green Bond Index, part of the new range, has outperformed its parent index this year, signaling the potential for enhanced returns in sustainable investments. Bloomberg’s expanded index suite gives clients a broader choice to elevate their green bond holdings.

These indices are highly customizable, catering to specific investor needs with options like business involvement exclusions, EU Taxonomy inputs, and custom sector weightings. A bespoke Bloomberg Euro Treasury Green Bond Tilted Index has been licensed to Amundi for a novel UCITS ETF in Europe.

“Sales of green bonds have reached record highs this year, up more than 10% compared to volumes for the same period last year, while the broader sustainable debt market has soared past new heights to $7 trillion historically, and Bloomberg Indices has closely tracked this growing trend to provide investors with myriad ways to introduce and benchmark this market to their portfolios,” Bloomberg Index Services Limited Sustainable Indices product manager Jonathan Gardiner said.
