Citizens Financial Group unveils eco-friendly Mastercard debit and ATM cards


Citizens Financial Group, an American bank headquartered in Rhode Island, has unveiled a new eco-friendly Mastercard debit and ATM card. 

The new Mastercard Debit and ATM Card is a testament to Citizens’ commitment to sustainability and accessibility. Recognizing the urgent need for environmentally friendly financial products,

Citizens partnered with Mastercard to develop a card made from 90% recycled PVC. This initiative aligns with a growing demand for sustainable banking solutions and demonstrates Citizens’ dedication to eco-conscious practices.

Citizens is a major player in the financial industry, offering a comprehensive range of banking services. Its portfolio includes personal and business banking, wealth management, and loan products.

The bank prides itself on customer-centric solutions, technological innovation, and a robust network of branches and ATMs across various states, making banking accessible and convenient for its clients.

The newly launched Mastercard Debit and ATM Card is not just eco-friendly but also inclusive. Featuring a unique Touch Card notch, it aids customers who are blind or partially sighted in distinguishing their cards. This design is part of Mastercard’s initiative to make banking more accessible.

Additionally, the card carries the Mastercard sustainable card badge, reflecting its lower environmental impact in terms of energy, material consumption, and carbon footprint.

The issuance of consumer and business debit and ATM cards will begin in January 2024, transitioning all Citizens’ cards to Mastercard.

Notable products include the Citizens Quest Checking and Citizens Private Client Checking, offering Mastercard World Debit cards with travel rewards and business resources. All cards come with enhanced security features like 24/7 fraud monitoring and alerts.

The partnership with Giesecke+Devrient (G+D), a global security technology company, enables the unique card issuance service, incorporating the Touch Card notch in each card. This collaboration underlines Citizens’ ongoing efforts to innovate and provide customers with cutting-edge, secure banking solutions.

Citizens Vice Chair and Head of Consumer Banking, Brendan Coughlin, said, “The full conversion of our new Mastercard debit and ATM cards is another milestone in our expanded, strategic partnership with Mastercard, a collaboration that embodies our shared commitment to innovation, inclusivity and unparalleled customer experience.”
