Coalition, a global cybersecurity firm, has bolstered its cyber-defence arsenal with the appointment of a new incident response lead for the UK.

Former acting Sergeant in the police cybercrime unit, Mark Bird, will take up the reins, leading the organisation’s affiliate incident response and cyber forensics organisation in the UK, according to Insurance Business Mag.

This strategic move aims to enhance Coalition’s cybersecurity capabilities, placing Bird at the forefront of safeguarding against cyber threats. As the newly appointed UK CIR lead, Bird is set to leverage his expertise to assist Coalition’s policyholders during critical moments, offering immediate support and guidance to restore normalcy.

He brings a wealth of experience into the role from his 16-year career with the West Midlands Police, specialising in cybercrime investigations.

His previous role as the head of incident response at Pragma equipped him with the skills to navigate complex cyber events, such as business email compromises, ransomware attacks, and insider threats.

Coalition operates globally, with a focus on providing comprehensive cybersecurity solutions. The company, with over 600 employees across the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia, is dedicated to mitigating cyber risks and supporting businesses in the event of cyber incidents. Coalition’s mission is to educate insureds and brokers, reducing the impact of cyber events on businesses.

Following the announcement of his appointment, Mark Bird said, “I am very excited to be able to help Coalition’s policyholders in their moment of greatest need. Having experienced a range of high-pressure situations during my career, I take great pleasure in providing support and reassurance to clients during times of immense pressure. For hard-pressed businesses, cyber events can be immensely frustrating and stressful. Years of work can be undone by someone clicking on a malicious email. My job is to offer immediate support and guide clients back to business as usual.”

Tom Draper, head of insurance for Coalition UK, said, “2023 was all about consolidating our launch in the UK market, talking to brokers about how to support their clients with cyber insurance. In 2024, as demonstrated by Mark’s hire and others in the pipeline, we will support brokers by bringing new ways to educate insureds, thereby helping to reduce the impact of cyber events on UK businesses.”
