Tietoevry, a prominent figure in the tech industry, has made a significant stride towards enhancing its sustainability performance with the introduction of its Sustainability Pledge aimed for 2024 and beyond.
This ambitious initiative builds upon the company’s previous sustainability plan, spanning from 2021 to 2023, and takes into account the evolving regulatory landscape alongside global changes. The pledge encompasses a comprehensive approach divided into three core pillars: climate action, ethical conduct, and social impact, each with defined areas and measurable, time-bound targets.
Climate action under Tietoevry’s pledge includes a focus on energy management, carbon emissions reduction, and promoting a circular economy. Meanwhile, ethical conduct covers crucial aspects such as data privacy, cybersecurity, responsible artificial intelligence (AI) practices, and maintaining high standards of business ethics, values, and integrity. The social impact pillar aims at advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and championing human and labour rights.
Tietoevry’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Ida Bohman Steenberg, expressed enthusiasm about the company taking a further step towards a sustainable future. “We are pleased to announce Tietoevry taking this next step towards fostering a more sustainable future, in a world that is changing record-fast and profoundly in many ways. Through embracing the Sustainability Pledge, Tietoevry can both build for the future as well as adapt in the ever-changing landscape we operate in.
“We have seen events and reports like never before during our lifetime in the past few years: climate change the covid-pandemic and the war in Ukraine, for example. We need to be increasingly resilient and flexible, yet not at the cost of compromising on the foundational work that is needed for example to meet the climate ambitions. Tietoevry’s Sustainability Pledge is built for that.”
The pledge’s formation was guided by a double materiality analysis conducted in 2023, in line with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Act (CSRD), establishing time-bound, measurable targets across the identified areas. Bohman Steenberg highlighted the transformative nature of the current era, especially with the integration of AI into sustainability efforts, emphasizing the necessity for responsible management and adaptation to societal evolutions.
Tietoevry’s commitment to achieving a carbon-neutral footprint, ensuring ethical standards across all operations, and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment illustrates the company’s dedication to not just meeting but exceeding sustainability goals. These efforts are detailed through specific targets such as achieving carbon neutrality in its operations by 2026, reaching 100% circularity for internal and customer hardware, maintaining zero corruption and major privacy breaches, and achieving significant milestones in gender balance and representation in leadership positions.
