Snugg, the home energy efficiency platform based in Edinburgh, has just unveiled a beta version of its latest innovation, ‘Carbon Cashback’. This pioneering initiative marks a significant advancement in home energy management.

According to The Intermediary, the reason behind the development of Carbon Cashback is clear: to motivate homeowners to enhance their property’s energy efficiency. By offering financial rewards for reducing carbon emissions, Snugg aims to make sustainable living both accessible and economically attractive.

Founded as a solution to promote energy efficiency, Snugg operates with the vision of transforming how homeowners manage and reduce their energy consumption. The company has consistently led initiatives that integrate technology with practical energy solutions.

The newly launched Carbon Cashback platform is designed to track and verify carbon savings through smart meter data. These verified savings are then converted into carbon credits and sold on the Voluntary Carbon Market, providing homeowners with a financial return on their investment in energy-efficient technologies like heat pumps and solar panels.

Homeowners can earn up to £2,000 over a 10-year period through Carbon Cashback. The amount of money received is calculated based on the carbon reductions confirmed by integrating smart meter data, adhering to Verra-approved methodologies.

In addition to benefiting individual homeowners, Carbon Cashback offers businesses the chance to partner with Snugg. This collaboration allows companies to enhance their sustainability offerings, engaging customers in meaningful emissions reduction while accessing crucial data to support their net-zero targets.

George Wilson, carbon markets lead at Snugg, emphasized the importance of the platform: “Carbon Cashback represents an important step forward in incentivising home energy efficiency improvements by tackling the biggest barrier homeowners face – cost. By offering financial incentives, we believe this innovative approach will result in many more homeowners upgrading their homes.

“For businesses, it’s an opportunity to differentiate their offering while supporting customers on their sustainability journey and use valuable data insights to help meet their net zero objectives.” Wilson also highlighted the unique opportunity for homeowners: “And for the first time, homeowners can easily participate in and benefit from the Voluntary Carbon Market.”
