MAPFRE, a global insurance giant, has named Carlos Díaz Gridilla as the new general manager of its real estate subsidiary, MAPFRE Inmuebles.

He replaces Alfredo Muñoz on May 1, who is retiring after over a quarter of a century with the company.

His distinguished career has seen him hold multiple leadership roles, including serving as CEO of MAPFRE in Malta and Turkey.

Díaz Gridilla brings extensive experience to his new role. He holds a degree in Sales Management and Marketing from ESIC Business and Marketing School and an MBA from Florida Atlantic University.

He joined MAPFRE in 2016 as an expert manager in real estate investment at MAPFRE Inversión and currently serves as assistant general manager at MAPFRE Inmuebles.

MAPFRE is a leading multinational insurance group operating in over 45 countries. It has a significant presence in Europe and Latin America, offering a wide range of insurance and financial services.

The company also has a robust real estate investment strategy through MAPFRE Inmuebles, which manages assets worth €3.2bn.

MAPFRE Inmuebles has built a strong investment strategy focused on alternative assets. Through strategic alliances with key partners such as Swiss Life, Manova, and Munich RE, the company has surpassed €1.0bn in real estate investments. It has primarily concentrated on prime office properties in major European cities.

Beyond real estate, the subsidiary has pioneered investments in sustainable projects. It collaborated with Abante and IAM Carbonzero to launch Europe’s first biomethane fund, which finances the construction of renewable biofuel production plants.

Additionally, it has established partnerships with Iberdrola and Macquarie for global infrastructure investments.

Currently, MAPFRE Inmuebles manages and supervises an asset portfolio valued at €3.2bn across 25 countries, with a strong presence in Spain, Western Europe, and Latin America.

Speaking on his appointment, Carlos Díaz Gridilla said, “MAPFRE Inmuebles is in good shape and we have all the foundations laid to continue boosting our contribution to the Group. The investment strategy in alternative assets in recent years has been successful, and we will continue to make progress with our top-level partners.”
