Metro Bank has announced a collaboration with the award-winning AI scam detection company, Ask Silver. This partnership marks Metro Bank as the first UK bank to integrate such advanced technology to combat fraud.
The need for this product arises from the increasing sophistication of scams targeting personal and business finances across the UK, including dangerous impersonation frauds where scammers mimic credible organizations to gain access to victims’ accounts. In response, Metro Bank has launched the ‘Metro Bank Scam Checker powered by Ask Silver’, designed to fortify its customers’ defenses against these threats.
Metro Bank primarily engages in providing secure and innovative banking services to its UK customer base. By integrating Ask Silver’s technology, the bank strengthens its commitment to customer security.
The newly introduced Metro Bank Scam Checker allows customers to instantly verify the legitimacy of various communications such as emails, websites, letters, or leaflets. Utilizing AI technology, customers can simply take a photo or screenshot and send it through WhatsApp to the Scam Checker service. In minutes, Ask Silver’s system analyzes the content to determine its authenticity and provides actionable advice on how to proceed securely.
In addition to identifying potential scams, this service is pivotal in educating customers about the nuances of scam communications and offers real-time alerts on detected frauds, all at no extra cost. The proactive fraud prevention tool also facilitates automatic reporting to the appropriate authorities, thereby aiding broader efforts to combat financial crimes.
Metro Bank emphasizes the importance of customer security by ensuring that it never pressures customers for quick decisions or sensitive information through insecure channels. This initiative is part of Metro Bank’s broader strategy to offer technologically advanced solutions that enhance customer safety and trust.
“This new partnership with Ask Silver is a game changer in protecting customers from fraud and helping to stop crime,” Metro Bank head of fraud Baz Thompson said. “We take the security of our customers very seriously and constantly review how we can help them fight fraud. Criminals often play on urgency and speed to trick people into parting ways with their hard-earned cash. Being able to offer a service where customers can know in minutes whether something is fraudulent provides an essential barrier to staying one step ahead of fraudsters.”
