ANZ Plus to debut Australia’s first fully password-free web banking

ANZ Plus to debut Australia’s first fully password-free web banking

ANZ is set to launch Australia’s first fully password-less web banking feature for its digital platform, ANZ Plus, in mid-2025. This new login method will allow customers to access their accounts using biometrics or a secure mobile app, eliminating the need for passwords entirely.

Users can either log in via a passkey—such as fingerprint, face recognition, or device PIN—or by entering their mobile number and confirming access through the ANZ Plus app. The change is aimed at improving security and reducing risks related to phishing and password breaches.

ANZ group executive Australia retail Maile Carnegie said, “The introduction of Password-less Web Banking will revolutionise the way customers access their bank account. Not only will it be easier than ever to log into your account, we’re helping our customers bank with confidence knowing their accounts are secure.

“By introducing this change, we’re helping prevent customer log in details from the risk of data breaches or phishing attacks – providing an extra layer of protection and one less thing for customers to worry about when it comes to banking security.”

This development is part of a wider effort by ANZ to tackle online fraud and scams. Recent tools include CallSafe, used over 20,000 times since November 2024 to authenticate callers securely, and the soon-to-launch Digital Padlock, which allows users to lock accounts instantly if suspicious activity is detected.

ANZ has also created a First Responders team that has handled around 140,000 scam-related calls in the past year, resolving the majority on first contact. Its Scam Safe suite has prevented over $5.5m in scam-related payments.

With this new feature, ANZ is reinforcing its commitment to security and innovation in digital banking.

Leak detection technology has long been a staple across commercial buildings, data centres and critical infrastructure, helping organisations identify water ingress before it causes costly disruption. Traditional systems, particularly those using leak detection cables, have offered a relatively simple monitoring solution. However, these systems typically rely on fixed alert thresholds, which often fail to reflect the variability of real-world environments. As a result, while detection capabilities exist, their reliability has frequently been called into question.
