Yorkshire Building Society has revealed that it has helped customers save more than £1m on home insurance premiums in the past six months, following the launch of a 0% commission partnership with insurance platform Uinsure.
The mutual announced the milestone ahead of National Insurance Awareness Day on June 28, saying its commission-free model delivers lower premiums and improved transparency for customers, according to FF News.
“We’re proud to be making insurance more accessible and affordable for our members,” said Pete Lewis, senior savings manager at Yorkshire Building Society. “By removing commission, we’re putting more money back in our customers’ pockets—over £1 million in home insurance savings alone.”
The initiative comes amid data from the Society showing that nearly one in four UK adults lack buildings or contents insurance. Of those, only 20% said they didn’t need it, while 31% cited affordability, 15% believed they owned nothing of value, and 10% felt adequately protected already.
Despite 66% of respondents saying they had reviewed their insurance in the past year, 26% admitted they only check their policy every two years or more – highlighting the need for regular reassessment.
“Supporting focus campaigns like National Insurance Day week allows us to talk to customers about everyday financial needs they might not otherwise think about,” Lewis said.
As part of the campaign, the building society is hosting in-branch sessions across the UK to help customers understand their insurance options and build financial resilience.
The mutual’s insurance model sees quotes automatically generated from a panel of top-rated UK insurers via Uinsure, based on a standardised 5-star Defaqto-rated policy – with the only variable being price.
Yorkshire Building Society offers the same 0% commission approach for life insurance, partnering with LifeSearch to provide customers with fee-free access to advice and policies from a range of providers.
Customers can obtain quotes online or by speaking to an expert adviser through the building society’s website.
