AI agents reshape industries with smart automation

AI agents have moved far beyond their early role as simple chatbots. With agentic AI providing cognitive capabilities such as reasoning, learning, and memory, these systems can now make decisions and act independently, automating processes across multiple industries.

SS&C Blue Prism, which offers digital automation technology, recently delved into some real use cases for AI agents across financial services and other sectors.

Agentic AI combines artificial intelligence with automation technologies to handle complex workflows without constant human oversight. Unlike traditional automation, which follows static rules, agentic automation enables adaptable systems that can respond dynamically to changing requirements.

An AI agent, often referred to as an AI worker, can carry out tasks ranging from routine data processing to sophisticated decision-making. These agents can be industry-specific, such as those tailored for finance or healthcare, or vary in intelligence levels depending on the complexity of work required.

Across industries, AI agents are creating measurable impact. Financial services use them for fraud detection, credit risk assessments, regulatory reporting, and KYC checks. Healthcare providers deploy them for diagnostics, patient record management, and treatment personalisation.

SS&C provides real-world evidence of their effectiveness, deploying over 2,700 AI agents across operations to save $200m over three years. Examples include credit agreement processing agents that cut review times by 95%, reconciliation agents delivering end-to-end automation for private equity firms, and invoice reconciliation agents reducing manual effort by over 90%.

However, SS&C’s 2025 Global Enterprise AI Survey highlighted challenges that organisations face. While 29% have already adopted agentic AI and 80% believe it enhances productivity, 37% identify security and compliance risks as key barriers, alongside a lack of operational trust in AI systems.

To address this, SS&C offers its AI Gateway governance platform and the SS&C | Blue Prism Enterprise Operating Model (EOM). These solutions provide structured AI deployment methodologies, robust audit trails, and risk controls, ensuring AI systems integrate safely and effectively into business operations.
